Carpentry & Repairs

  • Tasks:
  • Fix or build various broken things as agreed upon by membership, or your own initiative
  • Keep an eye out for failing equipment, fixtures, etc. and communicate to membership
  • Design display & storage systems
  • Source merchandizing/display sources, maintain archive of those sources
  • Source thermometers, cleaning equipment.
  • Maintain archive of manuals and information concerning current equipment
  • Small stuff: Changing water filters, keeping extra light bulbs, shelf brackets & water filters, and very random stuff
  • Medium stuff: Fixing faucets, securing power cords, monitoring coolers, keeping records.
  • Bigger jobs: Repairing shelves, refinishing, painting.
  • Contracting other stuff: Reflooring, cooler repairs.
  • Time requirements:
  • 2.25 hours weekly, do what can be done
  • Specific projects may require time in excess of 2.25 hours: Other members may be available to help.
  • Software knowledge requirements:
  • Other useful skills & knowledge:
  • Depends on the task..
  • Basic plumbing knowledge (Teflon wrapping, mounting fixtures, improvising!)
  • More complex plumbing (Toilet installation, brazing and pressure fittings)
  • Where to find or research plumbing/electrical/misc. parts and supplies
  • Basic electrical (repairing cords, replacing plugs)
  • Checking equipment and cables for shorts
  • Experience with table saw, circular saw, router, nail guns, orbital sanding, etc.
  • High standards of durability, things in the store suffer like you wouldn't believe. The goal should generally be "indestructable", OR easily replacable.
