Instore System Administration VACANT

The instore computer is increasingly central to smooth store operation. The current twiki website is used to list receiving instructions for expected deliveries, track overstock, & print signs and forms. As tools are developed to take inventories, manage member information, take special orders, and track shift attendance, a consistently functioning store computer will be of great importance.

The following list has been brainstormed during Information Systems working group meetings, but is largely open to discussion and change.

Taking on these responsibilities involves a committment to working via coop ideals of consensus decision making, and maintaining accountability within a non-heirarchical structure.

Tasks:
  • Infrastructure
    • Hardware maintanance (Depending, may pass some stuff to facilities, with or without recommendations)
      • Computer & peripherals
      • Router & network connections
      • Data & Power cable routing
  • Ordering printer ink and paper
  • Sys-Admin

  • Other
    • Conduct training sessions for working members

Time requirements:
Time requirements are variable, but availability on short notice to set things in order is very valuable. Standard shift commitments are 2.25 hours/week. For this position, as with all nontraditional shifts, that time may not be distributed evenly throughout a year of membership.

Useful software knowledge:
  • Experience with *NIX systems, familiarity with Ubuntu a plus.
  • Other useful skills & knowledge:
  • Knowledge of hardware a plus but not critical.
  • Interest and entusiasm for FOSS
