Ringing EBT Sales

EBT cards can't be used to pay for non-food items, like canteens or soap.

There are three steps to ringing EBT cards:

1. Ring items at register and apply discount
2. Process card at terminal
3. Record payment at register & file receipt.

1) At the register

Ring items subtotal 5% discount FS subtotal (different from regular subtotal key. It waives tax on items like water)

There is no minimum for EBT purchases.

2) At the card terminal

Make sure no one's on the phone.

swipe card select "EBT" select "Food" sale amount Enter (green key) shopper enters PIN
Screen should say "dialing..receiving" etc.
Check that receipt says “approved”
terminal beeps: "Print Customer Copy?" choose Y or N

3) Back at register

enter amount paid EBT key file store copy of receipt in box behind terminal.

If there's not enough on the card to pay for the whole sale, you can split payment between the card and cash. See See "Split Payments"
