If you fix a register mistake, there's no need to leave a note about it.

If there's a mistake you can't fix, the best place to leave a note is in the 2-part receipt book. Include a register receipt, or write down the transaction number (which you can find on the right-hand receipt roll).

For card terminal transactions, use the contact form and choose "report a problem with Credit Card or EBT."
