TROUBLESHOOTING
There is a manual for the regsiter on the shelf above the computer keyboard. It’s paperback and skinny, so hunt around.
As with most other machines, problems with the register are often resoplved by turning the key to
off, waiting a full minute and turning it back on. Don’t try waiting a scant 15 seconds; be patient.
NOISE OF DOOM: This is the error tone, and it’s piercing- press
CLEAR to make it stop. You’ll hear it if:
· you try to enter a CLERK number when there’s already one in there
· you use the decimal point when entering a price
· you don’t press the SCALE key before using one of the PER LB dept. keys
· you don’t enter the amount paid before pressing CASH/CHECK/EBT/CREDIT
PP is a printer error. Look for bits of paper in the receipt and journal slots. If you can’t find any, rest the machine for a full minute. If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the
PRINTER RIBBON , which should be changed every month or so. Replacements should be in the basement but can be purchased at Faerman Cash Register, 159 Bowery between Broome & Delancey (212) 226-2935. If we are out, buy two.
NO RECEIPT PAPER – When we run out of paper, especially the store copy or “journal” roll on the right-hand side, we no longer have a record of our sales, which is a bad situation. The paper turns pink at the edge a while before it will actually run out; just replace it, following the illustration on the register cabinet. Put the one you’re replacing in the box on the shelf above the register that says “Filled-Out Receipt Books.”
MANUAL DRAWER OPENING- There is a lever at the center of the underside of the register, about 1.5” in from the customer side. Press upwards on it, and the drawer will pop open, unless there’s something stuck in it.
