Finding your way around
Webs
The wiki is divided into 5 big sections, called webs. These are:
Info_Sys |
Members only |
Information Systems working group space |
Members |
Members only |
Member resources: Schedule, directory, minutes & proposal archives, working group pages |
Sandbox |
Members only |
For experimenting, "playing in the sandbox" as it were. |
Store |
Public |
Info that's useful while in the store: Receiving instructions, how-to pages. |
Main |
Public |
Our public web site: Recipe book & guides, produce delivery listing, product price lists, basic Co-op info |
TWiki |
Public |
Ignore this area, unless you need to learn about advanced editing |
For the most part,
Main,
Store, and
Members are the most important areas.
It's reasonable to consider the entire wiki as a filing cabinet, and each web as a drawer.
Similar to paper pages in a filing cabinet, wiki pages rely on the users to keep them well organized. Because that doesn't always happen, there are a few tools for browsing & searching the contents of the wiki.
NOTE: The public areas of the wiki are indexed by search engines, so DON'T upload text files or PDFs that contain sensitive information, even email addresses & phone #s.
Index & Topic List
You can start at a web home page and click through the various links, but the wiki also has an option to display a complete list of all pages in a web. In the sidebar, there are two links:
-
Index - Displays all pages in the current web. It lists the page name, current revision number (r1, r2, etc.), the date it was last revised, who last edited it, and first 20 words or so from the page:
-
Topic List - Displays all pages in the current web as a list:
Searching
The search box can be used to search for pages based on the title or the contents.
By default, the search box will search within your current web. So if you searched for "miso" right now, you'd probably find directions for putting away the last shipment of miso that arrived, because these help pages are in the "Store" web. If you then check the box indicating "All public webs", you would then search InfoSys, Members, and Sandbox as well, so your results would likely include Dry Goods pages that mention miso, or maybe even Facilities pages discussing shelving for miso.
